Keep On Showing Your “Change,” Djo

On June 22nd, Djo – “the critically acclaimed brainchild of multi-talented musician/actor Joe Keery” – released his new single “Change” along with an announcement of a new album! DECIDE, Djo’s followup to 2019’s TWENTY TWENTY, will be released on September 16th. If “Change” is any indicator, DECIDE will have a decidedly different feel than TWENTY TWENTY, but it will still capture Djo’s spirit as an artist.

For those who are unaware, Joe Keery is mostly known for his roles in Stranger Things and Free Guy (among other performances), but he used to release music under the name “Cool Cool Cool.” Whether or not this is a Community reference is something we hope to find out eventually. He also happens to be a former member of Post Animal – yes, the same Post Animal who is currently taking over the world with their new album, Love Gibberish. His work in Post Animal gave way to Djo when he had to leave the band to focus on his acting commitments and solo career, and the rest is the present.

DECIDE serves as a sort of aural history of Keery’s late 20’s. It features reflections on growth, relationships and navigating it all in a world filled with technology at its center. It’s his sonic ambitions however [sic] that take these introspections and melt them into a warped reality with each layered synth pulling the listener’s emotional strings.” “Change” serves as an excellent introduction to this new world, with “heavy synths” and some drum machines in addition to a funky bass line and a very well-mixed drum kit that blends directly into those machines.

Check out “Change” below, and be on the lookout for Djo’s remaining live performance dates in 2022: a Lollapalooza after show on July 30th, a performance at Lollapalooza on July 31st, Sea Hear Now Festival in Asbury Park on September 17th, and a slot at Austin City Limits on October 15th!
