Kat Robichaud’s Misfit Cabaret is back after two years, reuniting under the roof of the Alcazar Theatre in San Francisco for an “asylum” themed variety show in celebration for the Halloween season. For two weeks, they performed in their home base, and will be coming out to Seattle for the remainder of the month to perform, starting on Friday, October 22nd.
Kat Robichaud’s Misfit Cabaret is a splendiferous variety show centered around magical music with a rotating cast of eccentric performers. From burlesque to drag to circus to magic, you never know what you’re going to see (or what you’re getting yourself into)! For each new Misfit Cabaret, emcee Kat Robichaud writes two original songs keeping with the theme of the evening and plays them with her Darling Misfit band, as well as a special medley to kick off the evening and welcome in the spirits of San Francisco’s saucy past. There’s comedy, romance, and bawdiness around every corner and not a dull moment or dry eye in the house.
We joined with the Misfit Cabaret on Friday, October 15th, for a wild variety of events that made our souls sing. Interacting with the crowd, the variety show made for a very personal and raw experience in which not one member of the crowd left with a dry eye.
The show premises on the star, Kat, who wakes up not knowing who she is and in the Alcazar Asylum for the Mentally Insane. Guests come onstage as hallucinations of her own as she slowly uncovers her past, and the audience around her witness her version of the tale of what everyone in the Misfit Cabaret has been up to over the last year and a half since we’ve seen her last take the stage. The wild variety performances included burlesque, drag, contortion, and aerials that uncovered small parts of Kat’s past as she uncovered her identity.
The performance as a whole brought light and fun into the dark, depressing situations we have been wrapped up in, curating a temporary escape and, dare I say it, asylum, from our reality… one that you were hesitant to leave once it was over.
The Misfit Cabaret crew are just getting started, too. Over the course of the pandemic, they began a Kickstarter funded film that is still in the progress of its creation. Anticipations for its release could never be higher. After their run through the Halloween show, they will be performing a winter holiday themed show, title to be released… Tickets for that are now live for purchase.
The variety show will be heading to Seattle’s Hale’s Ales Palladium for the next few weeks. You cannot afford to miss this one of a kind event! Tickets and the schedule are available here.
