Kat Leigh Shares Debut Single “Somebody Else”
Our identity is something that we all hold close to our hearts. From our physical attributes, talents and down to experiences they are all part of that package. A unique bag that guides and aids us in surviving the world we live in. That’s how it ought to be for the most part, but for some that’s not entirely true. As you can see, there are individuals that turn against themselves to the point of wanting to be someone else. It’s a sad reality that’s been plaguing us since the very dawn of our existence.
This is a heart wrenching topic to tackle most especially through the medium of music. But to those who do, kudos is in order because they bring to light a very important issue that media often overlooks. A prime example of this would be Kat Leigh’s new debut single entitled “Somebody Else”. Released July 27th via BMG Records, this track delves deep in personal recesses of Kat Leigh and that burning desire to “fit in”. From growing up without a mother, to being bullied at school, they give us a snapshot of how the pain they bear on the daily.
A journal entry set to tone and beat, they take us on a roller coaster of sorrow and intense searching for an alternate version of Kat Leigh. One who is whole, happy, thriving and not “paranoid without the medication”. Unfortunately, there is no “happily ever after” here to greet us. Rather we hear a cry for assistance, that they need to be found at the quickest possible time. Before the winds of change erode them away to nothingness.
While Kat Leigh’s tune is heavy dose of agony, the accompanying MV is an exact opposite. Showing us that the search is over and has now entered in a state of bliss breaking away from their body. It’s a way of manifesting their wish, that someday this will all be a reality and not just for meant for a video. Whether it be another being finding them, or they are their own hero that will be a nonetheless a momentous day. A step toward moving on and breaking out of binds that have been suffocating them for all this time.
