Exclusive Interview: XEVEN Chats with Us About Latest Single, “Yucatan”
Xeven’s music is personal, emotional, and doesn’t really fit a genre description. Most of it is dark and melancholic, with eerie ambient sounds and meaningful lyrics. Helen was born and raised in Tallinn, Estonia, at the brink of Soviet Union’s collapse. As a child and teenager, her upbringing propelled her drive to express herself through her ambition in performing arts.
Sharing her third single with independent record label, Pitch & Prose, “Yucatan” is a perfect summer-time jam! With this new track, Xeven dips her toes into alternative hip-hop with dashes of melodic rap and steamy instrumentals. She wrote, performed, and produced this track herself, showing off considerable talent in every stage of development. This is her third release with independent record label Pitch & Prose.
We had the opportunity to talk with her about the beginnings of her music career over the last almost two years and more specifically about how her upbringing as a Russian-speaking Estonian influences her artistry today. Prior to her start as an artist, she pursued modeling, which ultimately brought her to her current home of New York. Her recent single, “Yucatan,” is a departure from her previous melancholy sound into a more upbeat and fun atmosphere and, as Xeven mentions, it will continue to influence her sound moving forward.
We chatted with Xeven on our Twitch about “Yucatan” and how it may shift her musical journey. Watch below, and follow us on our Twitch to see more interviews live!
