Hail The Sun Releases Emotional New Single “Under The Floor”
Hail The Sun’s new single “Under The Floor” is an intense depiction of confusion and victimhood. The song carries the classic screaming, post-hardcore sound the band has become known for, but explores new thematic depths. “Under The Floor” comes off of Hail The Sun’s upcoming album Divine Inner Tension, which is set to be released later this summer. This is the third single from the album to be released so far, joining “Chunker” and “Mind Rider.”
The band released a music video to accompany the single, which depicts one of the heinous murders committed by John Wayne Gacy from the perspective of a victim. Lyrics like “In the space that you crawl they’ll be finding us all. Right here under the floor. Autopsy showing the marks of the chosen. Autopsy showing the marks of what I endured.” show what the band interprets as a first-hand encounter with death. While still carrying a dark and haunting tone that “Hail The Sun” has often explored in their previous songs, “Under The Floor” offers a more convoluted depiction of powerful emotions. The song oscillates between feelings of despair, quilt, victimhood, and acceptance.
Everything comes from within, so I thought that maybe I don’t have to suffer to feel inspired.
Donovan Melero
This is the perspective that permeates throughout Divine Inner Tension. “This is the first album we’ve written that didn’t come exclusively from a place of suffering or pain,” said lead singer Donovan Melero. “Sadness, heartbreak and nihilism all inspire, but during the pandemic, there was a big shift, and this is more about retelling the story — retelling stories about everyday perceptions.” It’s this dichotomy that really makes “Under The Floor,” as well as the album’s other released singles, feel so powerful and emotionally evocative.
Along with the release of Divine Inner Tension, Hail The Sun will be traveling on a headlining tour throughout the summer, so grab your tickets and pre-order the album here.
