Golden Features Enlists Rromarin for Enchanting Future Bass Single, “Touch”
Acclaimed Australian electronic producer Golden Features (Tom Stell) makes his highly anticipated return with his rousing new single, “Touch,” featuring Rromarin. After his 2018 debut album SCET and the launch of 2020’s collaborative project BRONSON (with ODESZA), Stell felt creatively spent and needed time to recoup. Instead of opting for the traditional rest and recovery approach, Stell immersed himself deep into the clubbing mecca of the world, Berlin, losing himself to the city’s renowned techno bunkers and hedonistic clubs, dancing with strangers, stripped of phones, and returning to the apartment in the early hours to hunt for tracks he’d heard just the night before.
“Touch” encapsulates everything Stell took away from his invigorating stint in Berlin, so it is only natural that this single marks the first taste of his new music. Fronted by a future bass production and balanced with dueling deep and wispy vocals, the track is both moody and light. The pulsating rhythm and hypnotic beats entrench listeners within that club-like atmosphere – calling forth a desire for dashing away the night on the dance floor. Of the new single, Stell says,
“Touch” was born from that synth riff. I fought it for so long, feeling it was too happy and upbeat. After giving it some space I reharmonized everything under the riff and it instantly made me feel something. Claire (Rromarin) had actually recorded these vocals for another song on the record, but the lyrics just felt right for Touch. To me it encapsulates that feeling after the rave… At the kick-on laying with your head in somebody’s lap, smoking a cigarette while they play with your hair.
The frenzied feeling that clings to the synth-driven melodies and energetic basslines is one that those in the electronic world are familiar with. To have it captured in such a delicate, yet robust, manner in “Touch” marks for a truly extraordinary listening experience. Put in your earbuds, close our eyes, and allow yourself to be transported into a strobe-filled room as you listen.
