Breakthrough alternative pop artist girl in red aka Marie Ulven has released the official video for her latest single “I’ll Call You Mine” from her critically acclaimed debut album IF I COULD MAKE IT ALL GO QUIET. The video was released fresh off Ulven’s performance at the MTV European Music Awards where she lit up the stage with an upbeat rendition of her hit single “Serotonin.” Not only did the Norwegian artist receive two nominations, but she has also captured the attention of several pop sensations including Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.

The Jared Hogan directed video takes viewers on the journey of a lesbian couple whose dreamlike love turns dark when they start committing petty robberies on their road trip. The visuals cut from the summer haze of the desert where there is tranquil peace in their intimacy to a somber noir when only one decides to turn herself into the police.

It’s a deeply raw music video as Ulven’s lyrics evoke a reminiscence for those perfect snapshots of memories of being young and in love. Those serene drives that feel as though “it’s too good to last” are even more yearned for when that chapter of a relationship inevitably ends. The lyrics “Show me that you’re gonna stay/On my worst days/Hold mе like you’ll never lеavе” have a sweet moment of closeness and security. It’s a heartbreakingly emotive story as while the love doesn’t go away, sometimes the one you love does. Throughout the lovers journey, girl in red weaves herself into the narrative. While removed, she is a part of their journey, narrating it with a passionate voice.

There is a sense of self-awareness and maturity that comes with Ulven’s indie rock persona. It’s one that inevitably makes those who listen feel seen and heard as these insecurities she expresses are not as lonesome as we sometimes believe. Having amassed over 1.6 billion streams already, girl in red is on her way to becoming a cemented powerhouse in the alt world. She will begin her highly anticipated headlining US tour in March 2022 where she will be joined with special guest Holy Humberstone.

Ulven has built a poignant career with beautifully curated music. Get a little taste of her artistry below with the music video for “I’ll Call You Mine” and her lively performance at the MTV EMA’s:
