1. “Stranger” – Cash & Skye
Los Angeles duo Cash & Skye unveil “Stranger,” a twangy, country-infused track that opens their debut full length album, Just A Stranger. Beginning with a plucked descending guitar motif, the new release is composed of laid-back percussion and layered vocal harmonies. “‘Stranger’ is about how you never know when you’re leaving or where you’ve left because there’s a fish on every side of you and you’re dead center of your school,” Cash explains.
2. “Brothers” – Bridge The Gap
“Brothers” by melodic punk group Bridge The Gap is a nostalgic anthem delving into themes of loss and grief. “This is a personal song about Bryan, a family member I lost, and the grieving process we had to go through as a family . . .” explains vocalist and guitarist Chad Jensen. “In the song, Bryan’s sudden passing is told through his brother’s eyes.” Layered with riveting electric guitar riffs and driving percussion hits, “Brothers” radiates the deep love Jensen and his family continue to hold for Bryan.
3. “A Question Of You” – Inhaler
Irish rock band Inhaler have dropped their latest alternative indie single, “A Question Of You.” The song explores honesty in relationships, specifically how being candid with another person starts with being truthful to your own self. Garnering over two million Spotify streams since its mid-January release, the track is accompanied by an action-packed jewelry heist music video. 4. “Drop” – Tunde Adebimpe
Up next is Tunde Adebimpe‘s “Drop,” an immersive soundscape of experimental soul, electronic and indie rock elements. Instrumentally, the track weaves together futuristic-sounding synths, steady drums, soaring vocals and rhythmic beat-boxing to create a smooth, dynamic composition. As the lead singer for the rock band TV on the Radio, Adebimpe continues to make waves in the music scene. Look out for his forthcoming debut solo album, Thee Black Boltz, out April 18th via Sub Pop Records.
5. “Theme for Contrails” – SQUANDERERS
Vivid, cryptic and undeniably captivating, “Theme for Contrails” is a completely instrumental composition by guitar trio SQUANDERERS. The piece focuses heavily on guitars, with reverberating lines meshing with more delicate pluckings to create a unique foundation.
