Here are our daily tracks for you featuring OMBIIGIZI, Cascade Riot, The Moles and more!

1. “Shame” – OMBIIGIZI

Anishinaabe-Canadian indie rock band OMBIIGIZI have released “Shame,” the titular and final track on their new sophomore album, SHAME. With sparse instrumentation and powerful, raw vocals, the song delves into the vulnerable human feeling of humiliation that can arise from feeling like an outsider. OMBIIGIZI is led by Daniel Monkman (aka Zoon) and Adam Sturgeon (aka Status/Non-Status) who are united by their Indigenous culture and shared desire to preserve tradition. The official music video for “Shame” portrays the story of a lost-looking astronaut approached by a masked figure. “Shame is a mask we all wear,” says Sturgeon, on the visualizer’s significance. “It is something that can feel Alien, but often reveals itself in the simplicity of our day to day life. I don’t believe there is any one face to shame.”

2. “Time Machine” – Cascade Riot

Have you ever wished you could just… turn back time? “Time Machine” by Detroit-based alternative rock band Cascade Riot takes that sentiment and combines it with infectious vocal hooks, snappy guitar riffs and blazing drum hits. “I don’t ever wanna leave / Take me back and let me be,” the band sings, unveiling waves of nostalgia and desire for what once was. The accompanying music video, filmed at a historic estate in Northern Detroit, is full of vibrant color and spinning frames that mirror the idea of traveling back to the past. The release of “Time Machine” marks the third single from Cascade Riot’s upcoming debut album, New Disguise, set to be released in January 2025.

3. “Fly Religion” – Guided By Voices

Dayton, Ohio-based rock band Guided By Voices have dropped “Fly Religion,” a riveting rock single packed with energy and waves of diverse sound. It features syncopated basslines, slightly distorted electric guitar riffs and powerful drum hits. “Fly Religion” will make its appearance on the band’s 41st full-length album, Universe Room, set to arrive on Feb. 7, 2025 via GBV Inc. The forthcoming 17-track album boasts layers of unique instrumentation, with very low chances of reappearing song motifs. Furthermore, bandleader Robert Pollard asked each member to record all the instruments for one song to expand the album’s variety. “I wanted to create, hopefully, an experience, kind of a wild ride, where the listener would want to hear it multiple times in order to grasp all the sections and fields of sound to discover something new with each listen,” says Pollard. Stay on the lookout for Universe Room‘s release in a couple months!

4. “Theme for Viewers At Home” – SQAUNDERERS

Guitar trio SQUANDERERS have released their haunting new single, “Theme for Viewers At Home.” The band is composed of guitarists Wendy Eisenberg and David Grubbs, along with bassist Kramer. Together, the three experiment with eerie guitar lines that create a unique, otherworldly sort of atmosphere, which is seen prominently in the track’s official vintage-looking music video. Static sounds, ambient drones and glitchy noises are also added into the mix. “Theme for Viewers At Home” can be found on SQUANDERERS’s debut collaboration, If a Body Meet a Body, which was released this past Nov. 22, 2024.

5. “Chimes” – The Moles

Up next is “Chimes,” a single by Australian indie pop band The Moles set to appear on their upcoming February 2025 album, Composition Book, via Splendid Research. Tonally, “Chimes” is light-hearted and warm, with an upbeat soundscape of keyboards, drums and guitars. Richard Davies, The Moles’ frontman and lead singer, brings depth to the track’s harmonic vocals. Looking ahead, The Moles will be performing at venues in Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, DC., and New York City. Ticket information can be found here.

Although we’ve covered a lot of diverse music over these past few months, there is a plethora of new releases set to arrive in the coming months. Enjoy today’s five tracks, and I’ll get back to you all with some fresh music next year!
