German Indie-Rock Band Douglas First Shows Star Power With New Album “Solar”
Berlin-based alternative rock band Douglas First recently released their latest album, “SOLAR”, this past month. The band is made up of French singer and guitarist Fabien, Turkish bassist Selim, German drummer Marcel, and French guitarist Julien. SOLAR features 5 tracks -all of which showcase the band’s unique sound and production style. “Step Aside”, a featured track on the album, was released on June 1st as a precursor to their later releases. With “two fuzzy electric guitars, and a catchy rhythm section”, the single is absolutely outside of the box for Douglas First.

“Step Aside” begins with Selim on bass; he creates a steady rhythm, inviting whoever is listening to stick around and enjoy the ride. The beat is ominous and alluring as it perfectly segues into the vocals performed by lead singer and guitarist Fabien. At the same moment, Selim’s performance on bass is matched by Marcel on drums -solidifying the cool and collected energy of the song. “Step Aside” is an excellent showcase of Fabien’s vocal abilities. Something about the French singer is reminiscent of the vampire heartthrobs we were so obsessed with in the mid 2000’s. Whether it be his raw sex appeal or captivating energy when performing, Fabien’s presence only furthers the band’s mysterious vibe.
With the addition of Julien’s guitar and a perfectly produced track, “Step Aside” is utterly hypnotizing. The energy of the song slowly begins to pick up as more and more elements are layered into its production. It becomes something strikingly similar to that of iconic late-70’s bands such as the pioneering British post-rock group Public Image Ltd (PiL).
