On November 30th, Virginia rapper Fly Anakin released his new single, “Ghost.” Featuring an appearance from “106 & Park’s seven-time Freestyle Friday champion and Hall of Famer Nickelus F,” “Ghost” is an astounding testament to not only Virginia hip-hop, but also to the ability of these two artists. The production from Like (of Pac Div) suits both MCs to a T, and the eeriness of the beat is amplified by the eeriness of the lyrics.

The chorus is amazing, opening with the line “Now you see me, now you don’t,” which takes on plenty of weight these days, but the lyricism of Fly Anakin and Nickelus F shines in their verses. Lines like “Think twice before you leave, no rights when you got weed;” “Buy a basket of food, then she pick Nick for the picnic;” and “How you gon’ teach if we don’t comprehend” all show a sense of wordplay, social commentary, and understanding that only comes from being some of the best in your profession.

How Fly Anakin is still underground even after his collaboration with Pink Siifu in 2020 I don’t fully understand. However, “Ghost” is the tone-setter for his next album, “slated for release via Lex Records in early 2022.” This should be Fly Anakin’s moment. Let it happen, world.

Check out “Ghost” below, and let us know what you think! Also, check out FlySiifu’s above. Definitely one of the highlights of 2020.
