FINNEAS is back and better than ever with the release of his brand new single, “For Cryin’ Out Loud!” This rollercoaster of a song takes listeners through the trials and tribulations that embody a relationship that gives and takes. Instead of breaking up after every conflict, FINNEAS sings about the love that keeps him and his partner together despite it all.

FINNEAS first teased this indie single on June 10, 2024 with a 21-second snippet on an Instagram story. The following day, the same clip of the song’s production was posted with the caption, “What if I started putting some songs out, maybe an album, played some shows, what do we think about that?” Since the official release of “For Cryin’ Out Loud!” on August 8, 2024, the 27-year-old singer-songwriter has announced his second solo studio album, For Cryin’ Out Loud!.

The ten-track self-produced album is set to debut on October 4 via Interscope Records. It consists of a series of studio sessions that allowed FINNEAS to bring his closest friends together in one room. While his recent album, Optimist, presented fans with instrumentals written and performed by FINNEAS himself, this next album showcases his talent in a new light. Instead of bedroom production, the album has been claimed as feeling more modern and studio band-like.

The Music Video

The accompanying music video for “For Cryin’ Out Loud” was written and directed by Isaac Ravishankara. FINNEAS stars as the lead and illustrates the reality of relationships that are both tirelessly taxing and incredibly rewarding. In the film, FINNEAS’s character is seen at constant odds with his lover. Every argument ends with him “dying” and appearing in a dark space with the band members. Time and time again, FINNEAS steps out into the light and “comes back to life,” choosing to return back to his lover despite their personal challenges.

Lyricism

Although “For Cryin’ Out Loud!” features an upbeat, alternative pop feel, the intricacy of its lyricism cannot be ignored. FINNEAS writes about the polarizing relationship dynamic at hand when singing, “What’s gonna help you wake up / Won’t help you sleep at night.” He furthers this contrast by singing “Walking away with your kiss on my cheek / And a bruise underneath.” His words shed light on what it means to be in a committed relationship with someone and truly love them at their best and worst moments. To see someone’s flaws and continue to love them for who they are is worth making music about.

For cryin’ out loud

I’m calling your name

You’re wearing me out

But I love you the same.”

– FINNEAS

The Artist

Finneas Baird O’Connell is an American singer-songwriter, record producer and actor. The recipient of multiple Academy and GRAMMY awards, he first made his voice known through his debut album, Blood Harmony (2019). FINNEAS has performed at Coachella, collaborated with Ringo Starr and Lizzy McAlpine, and produced/co-wrote songs for Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello, Tove Lo and many others. His rise to fame was elevated further by co-writing the critically acclaimed song, “What Was I Made For?” by his younger sister, Billie Eilish. This single was found in Greta Gerwig’s film, Barbie, and won him his second Academy Award for Best Original Song, two GRAMMY Awards and a Golden Globe Award. Most recently, FINNEAS has written the television score for the upcoming Apple Original series “Disclaimer.” This psychological thriller was written and directed by Alfonso Cuarón and will premier on October 11, 2024.
