Exclusive Premiere: The sound of lucid dreaming in Spirits of Leo’s “Solaris”
With a few seconds of rest before the euphoria, “Solaris” begins with the patient strum of the guitar, swelling in its intensity. It’s the first movement of a lucid dream, the volume building as the drum hits, the state of reflection all-encompassed by an ethereal soundscape of synth in the background. Deeply, the sound falls and weaves among the instrumental line, swirling around in consistent patterns as the hyper-layered vocals echo into the dream. The layers build and break across the song between intricate guitar lines, a pulsating bass, and ethereal vocal melodies.
This new shoegaze track by Spirits of Leo is a shout out into a textured void, one where other successful darkwave tracks from acts like The Cure or Cocteau Twins have roamed. This special post-punk group crafts tracks that grip listeners in their innate obscurity, mystery, and sense of space, and this is only their second single with the addition of new members.

The Brooklyn, New York-based group took a long break during the pandemic lockdown and only just started releasing new music with their new lineup this month, starting with their newest single “Patience.” The four members credit early acts from the 4AD independent record label as influences, as well as other artists from the 70’s post-punk scene.
“Solaris” is the second single from their upcoming album Gossamer Blue which is set to be released in early Summer through their label à La Carte Records. Keep up with Spirits of Leo on Instagram and Facebook for updates on their upcoming album, and listen to their new single “Solaris” below!
