Exclusive Premiere: Alanna Matty’s emotional new single “So Much”

Alanna Matty’s new song “So Much” begins like a soft, slow morning with the gradual ascent of an intimate piano line into her ethereal solo voice. Echoing like in a cathedral hall, Matty’s vocals soars atop the delicate piano space with lyrics that reveal deep insecurities and wounds. As Matty’s vocal lines layer and harmonize, she spirals deep into an anxious state, the perpetual worry swallowing her ability to float above her intrusive thoughts.

The vocals remain supported by the dreamy piano line throughout, crafting a sense of warmth and comfort around the vulnerability. As a choir of string instruments are introduced, Matty’s continues to overanalyze other fragile relationships in her life. She sings, “I feel bad / and I have with every friend I’ve ever had.” She then transitions to talking about her parents, saying they haven’t seen her happy in a while, while she loses herself in someone she is enamored with.

“So Much” is a brand new track that comes off of Matty’s latest album Thoughts//Feelings, which is dropping today. The Toronto-based singer-songwriter and producer said of the project, “This album is an autobiography of a chronic over-thinker. I’m very bad at feeling my feelings and prefer to be logical and think things through,” Matty said. “Music has always been a way for me to actually process emotions that I might not even realize I’ve been suppressing; I’ll start writing a song and suddenly I’m saying words and expressing the feelings I’ve been holding onto for so long.”

Matty has been working on the songs of Thoughts//Feelings over the span of 15 years, a time she has used to explore new sounds and reflect on her growth over the past decade. The album’s release comes after her successful 2019 EP “This Past Year” which found popularity with features on TV and across Spotify. She got the inspiration to release this new album after the support she found from her followers on Twitch. Keep up with Matty on social media and watch the lyric video for “So Much” below!
