Essy Puts Herself First in Synthpop Single, “One”

Nashville singer/songwriter Essy is finding a place in her listeners’ hearts with her synthpop instrumentals and authentic messages, giving us Robyn meets Carly Rae Jepsen vibes. It’s clear from her empowered lyrics that she’s self-assured and not backing down, at least not without making her voice heard.

“One” is one of a handful of singles she released last year. The message is one of that is overwhelmingly confident – you must make yourself your own priority. Lightly flowing synths shape the dazzling soundscape as Essy muses in dulcet tones. She reflects on a past relationship, where she felt as though she was never enough, especially when the other person was putting her second while she was putting them first. She also recognizes the other pitfalls of their relationship – the constant fights, the unapologetic “I’m sorry”, and the lack of understanding. Atop the bubbly synths, the reflection comes with a hint of sadness, as is expected. But there’s ultimately a triumphant recognition that she deserves better and is far better off.

Essy has since released more singles, as well as one this year, so be sure to check her out for your dose of 80’s-inspired instrumentals and soothing vocals.
