EMELINE PREMIERES INTOXICATING NEW SINGLE “CINDERELLA’S DEAD”
“Cinderella, you’re as lovely as your name. Cinderella, you’re a sunset in a frame. Though you’re dressed in rags, you wear an air of queenly grace. Anyone can see a throne would be your proper place.”. These are the words that you would encounter at the first few seconds of the 1950’s Disney hit Cinderella. Based on a fairytale by Charles Perrault, it tells of a young lass named Cinderella. Who is gifted with a heart of gold and beauty beyond compare. From a rough upbringing, we see her rise to royal status thanks her fairy god mother and true love.
In a nutshell, it’s a timeless rag to riches tale. One that encourages us to follow our dreams because they do come true. It ignites that torch we bare as we go through the darkest of times “Have faith in your dreams and someday. Your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving. If you keep on believing. The dream that you wish will come true”. A 1 hour and 16-minute love letter dedicated to you (yes you), saying that you can do whatever you set your being to.
But then there are creative minds who dare poke at the sugar-coated narrative created by the mouse in the house. Such is the case for the emerging superstar Emeline with her song “Cinderella’s Dead”. Unleashed last April 1st, in all major platforms worldwide. This also came bundled with a lyric video and later on a visualizer which dropped April 21st. A pulsating follow up to her 2021 bop, “What It Means To Be A Girl”.
When looking at the song itself, with just a month out in the market we can already conclude that this is a hit with a whooping 34 million views and counting. Not only that, rest assured this gem will live on forever in everyone’s hearts and playlists. How could it not be? It’s beat and its vibe is simply intoxicating. So much so that even Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella would approve of it. Perhaps, it could also be used the next time a royal ball occurs. Oh, what a lovely sight!
As much as this tune enthralls everyone in its wake. This is Emeline’s personal statement, as she moves forward in life. A rejection of her past self, trampled by abuse, toxicity and in the process forgetting who she really is. It’s her burning down the bridges of old, in order to create new and stronger ones built on self-love. For at the end of the day, to truly enjoy the world around you. We need to accept who are, embrace our strengths, limitations, and thread along accordingly.
The road ahead is arduous, days and nights could feel longer than usual but hang in there. Just like the supernova Emeline, the beasts that weigh you down can be conquered. With sheer determination, hard work and “Cinderella Is Dead” blasting in the background you can too.
