“Daisies” by Good Neighbours is a Tribute to the Love that Makes us Feel Good

Good Neighbours, a rising indie pop duo from East London, released “Daisies” this past July 5, 2024. Despite being labeled as a “low self-esteem anthem,” this catchy track is a combination of upbeat tempi and symbolic lyricism. This single is currently BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record and marks the band’s third single released in this year alone. It follows their debut single, “Home,” which accumulated over 270 million global streams and hit #26 in the UK’s singles charts.

Song Inspiration

When talking about the inspiration behind this song, Good Neighbours explained,

Sometimes when you hate the way you feel in your own skin, it’s easier to try to see yourself how other people do. And we thought that was a sick idea. It’s about someone making us fall back in love with ourselves.

Members Oli Fox and Scott Verill utilize a variety of unique synth beats to create their signature alternative pop beat. The live performance of this track embodied a warm and optimistic atmosphere through its use of golden yellow light. This is likely meant to mirror the way the narrator of the song feels when being loved by their significant other. Their partner makes them see the parts of themselves they previously disliked in a new light, causing them to “look so good [they] could cry.” Now, instead of harboring self-negativity, the narrator undergoes an internal revelation as they accept their individuality and watch these thoughts turn into classic summer flowers, daisies.

I look so good I could cry

When I see myself in your eyes ooo it feels so right

All the parts of me that hated

Yeah, you’ve got them pushing up daisies

“Daisies”

Good Neighbours has steadily been climbing the rise to fame in 2024. This past February, the duo performed at Hackney’s The Victoria for their second-ever headline, and sold out the Lexington the very next day. Keep a look out for performances at the Latitude Festival, Electric Picnic, and Leeds and Reading Festivals. Find the full tour list here.
