corook Tries “BDSM” In Her Newest Single About Long-Term Relationships

After her debut festival appearance at Bonaroo, corook (a self-described “singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and huge f*ckin dork”) dropped her newest single, “BDSM.” The track is full of corook’s light, airy vocals, along with a mixture of electric and acoustic guitar that builds up to the chorus’ climax which brings in the drum pad. Sprinkled throughout the song are cool electronic sounds and vocal effects that create a fun composition with a unique twist.

The song is inspired by her long-term relationship with her girlfriend, Olivia, and as corook goes on to explain,

I didn’t think I wanted to write love songs. I feel like love songs are usually cheesy and hard to listen to because they’re always just rainbows and butterflies. I realized the best part about my relationship is that I can tell my partner anything. I can tell her when I’m not really feeling it, or when I need something different, or when I’m not excited, and neither of us take it as a threat to our relationship. It’s just the truth. I’m really grateful for someone I can be that honest with. Relationships naturally get more predictable, and things can get boring, but when you stick it out, that love gets deeper and safer and way juicier. This is a realistic love song for all the people in long-term relationships.

“BDSM” showcases corook’s unique musical style, where she delves into deeply personal themes through a quirky and humorous lens. In the case of this specific single, corook uses BDSM as an example of how it can be fun to spice up a long-term relationship, especially after spending time getting to know each other. This is exemplified in the chorus, “Baby, I’m bored, we should explore/ We could try BDSM, you can tie my hands to the headboard/ Wait, I take it back, that’s really not me/ We just need some spice, if you know what I mean,” along with lyrics like, “But sometimes, I wish that we could turn time back/ Kiss you for the first time, for the first time again/ And happily choose to be bored all over again.”

If you like “BDSM,” then listen to corook’s debut EP achoo! which features popular singles such as the fan favorite, “snakes.” Also, be sure to follow corook on Instagram and Tiktok or check out her official website at corook.com to stay up to date on her music.

For now, be sure to give “BDSM” a listen!
