corook Reminds Us “it’s ok!” In New Single From The Comedic Alt-Pop Artist
Following the release of her latest single, “BDSM,” corook dropped “it’s ok!” which is dubbed as an “adult lullaby” for those moments when life seems too tough and overwhelming. The melody of the song follows the typical pattern of a lullaby, and paired with corook’s calming vocals and acoustic guitar, “it’s ok!” is the perfect song to help others feel less alone in their feelings about the state of the world.

corook further explains “it’s ok!” and the story behind it,
“I wrote this song with the intention of making a lullaby for myself. It’s for the days I have a hard time getting out of bed or when my worries take over the day. When I posted a clip of this song on TikTok, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I think the most interesting response was the amount of people taking videos of themselves in bed singing the song. It felt like a really simple but meaningful sign of solidarity like ‘Yes, I do that too.’ Watching those made me feel so much less alone in this feeling. I hope this song is a reminder that your only task of the day is to do what you can and to please yourself.”
The song’s lyrics come to life with the way corook’s acting translates through her singing. At one point, corook’s vocals sound strained as though she is spiraling, especially as she sings “But somewhere in Malaysia, there’s a plane that disappeared/ And no one talks about it and I think that’s pretty weird/ So what if it was me? My chances aren’t that far/ What if the plane I take next week ends up where they are?/ This isn’t making any sense and now I’m kinda spiraling.” After realizing what is happening, corook’s vocals sound calmer as she sings the next part, “Take a deep breathe and keep reminding/ Hey, hey, it’s okay/ Everybody feels kinda weird some days.”
corook’s use of humor and acting to portray the emotions discussed in “it’s ok!” makes it an interesting depiction of how mental health is affected by social media and the news. It’s the perfect reminder to learn how to balance staying informed with taking care of one’s mental health, and that it’s a struggle everyone faces on a daily basis. In fact, the song is so relatable that “it’s ok!” was even dueted by Alyssa Milano on her TikTok:
