The upcoming bedroom pop star morgen has announced her debut EP UNACCOMPANIED MINOR which will be released on December 3rd via Avoca Drive/Sony Music Entertainment Australia. Along with the announcement, morgen has also released her latest single “Sweet 16.”
The track featured morgen’s quirky adlibs, a compilation of bedroom pop with layers of guitar and synth. “Sweet 16″ highlights the heartbreak and disappointment faced during one of the most special days for most girls which was made worse by pandemic isolation. The song was written by morgen, Matthew Kahane and Emery Taylor just one day ahead of her 16th birthday, which was right at the beginning of quarantine, morgen expresses that she feels that she was missing out on “the teenage experience” and longs for things to go back to normal. As morgen shares, “I wrote a song to convince myself that parties and being social sucked because even if I could go out and party, I probably wouldn’t enjoy it. That being said partying isn’t horrible…all of the time haha.”
The 17-year-old has captured the attention of Zane Lowe and Sir Elton John with her previous singles “3D” and “Odd One Out.” These tracks also marked morgen’s official debut in music, giving her an impressive start to her career. “Most teenagers, we feel like we’re total failures because we don’t know what’s going on. We’re just faking it ‘til we make it and have to put on a brave face,” she says.
The six-track EP will revolve around morgen’s versatility and range, and explore everything from dreamy ballads to ‘80s-tinged California-pop. Although UNACCOMPANIED MINOR may seem like it falls into the bedroom-pop category, morgen has decided not to limit herself to one sound. Listen to “Sweet 16” here.
