Arny Margret Shares “the world is between us”
Arny Margret has spent the last year making waves, not only in her Icelandic hometown, but across Europe and the US, touring extensively and playing festivals as she seems to be just getting started in her rise to fame. Born and raised in a small town called Ísafjörður, she attended music school from the age of 6 learning to play the piano and gradually taught herself guitar. Just in February, her anticipated debut EP was launched to critical acclaim.
Now she’s set for the release of her debut full-length album, to be unveiled at the end of next month. She recorded the album at studio Hljóðriti in Hafnarfjörður and will continue to make her mark globally with her intimate and affecting live performances.
Only further building anticipations, Arny has shared the latest single toward the album, “the world is between us.” Accompanied by a beautifully crafted music video from Erlendur Sveinsson, we see a taste of her hometown in its unique otherworldly wonder during midwinter and “all sorts of weather,” as said by Arny. “It captures the isolation and loneliness, but also the beauty within it all. It was so nice to work with Erlendur on this, we had a great crew and it was so fun to make, so I hope people like it as much as we do.”
About the single and upcoming album, she also comments:
I like to use the weather, in one of my songs I even make it a person, I sing “I am blinded by the light of winter, but it comes and goes away, I don’t like her very much, you can’t depend on anything she’ll say”

In “the world is between us,” Arny’s vocals lilt in a sensual sound experience that wraps you in a sense of warmth, peace, and comfort; contrasting with a longing that feels ages tired and old. Acoustic guitar builds in the story and fills between the lines of lyricism and wonder.
they only talk about the weather is an album of acute emotional exploration. It’s Arny’s coming-of-age journey, from writing in school, staring out of dorm room windows, being on the road, to today. With poetic proficiency and a knack for composing melodies that bury themselves deep into the subconscious, Arny writes of loneliness and existentialism with stark relatability. She walks us through her relationships growing up and her realizations about other people as well as herself. And we look forward to hearing what she has next to offer.
