Here are our latest picks for you featuring Vienna Vienna, Amelie Lens, Lake Hills and more!
1. “Get a Life” – Daffo
“Get a Life” by Brooklyn-based Daffo is a reflective indie rock anthem about taking the time to appreciate life amidst the fast-paced nature of society. “Slow down / If you look where you’re going, you might / Get a life / Full with every bite,” Gabi Gamberg, the face behind Daffo, sings. Their authentic, soaring vocals couple with laid-back instrumentals to echo the song’s theme of staying mindful. Gamberg also seems to urge listeners to get out there and live a life worth living. “I feel like I spend a lot of time knowing I should be present, I should be enjoying the things in front of me, but I can’t,” Gamberg explains. “It’s a lot of knowing what you should be doing but not being able to do it.”
2. “Vienna (Everything’s Fine)” – Vienna Vienna
Vienna Vienna brings a captivating indie rock single to the main stage with the release of “Vienna (Everything’s Fine).” With energetic vocals and catchy guitar riffs, the new single bleeds themes of resilience while also keeping some playful sarcasm in the air. The repeated chorus, “Everything’s fine, yeah everything’s fine” leaves listeners wondering whether the main character really believes this sentiment or is trying to convince themselves of its truth. “Vienna (Everything’s Fine)” can also be found on Vienna Vienna’s latest 6-track EP, “Wonderland.”
“An ego check, cold sweat and realization, a bit of a bummer. I approach this like I approach everything, facetiously and lathered in distortion,” Vienna Vienna says, on his new single. “Accepting that people care about you hurts like hell, but could you learn to be more like them? If you poke around inside yourself for long enough, you might see love underneath the rubble; It might be worth digging for.”
3. “Thanks for Looking” – Lake Hills
Next up is Los Angeles-based Lake Hills‘ “Thanks For Looking,” a 3 minute and 49 second long track that wraps listeners in a blanket of vibrant technicolor beats and propulsive drum loops. Sporadic hip-hop vocals (“I like the way you look at me”) and aura-inducing melodic layers contribute to the song’s immersive feel. “Thank For Looking” can be found on Lake Hills’ Sept. 20 release, “Picking Flowers EP.” The collection features three other songs layered with rich, experimental tapestries of hi-hat rhythms, dissonant synths and alluring melodies.
4. “Wilderness” – Arrows, Vernon Noronha
“Wilderness” by Arrows and Vernon Noronha is an emotionally raw song about the everlasting essence of nature and relationships. Lyrically expansive, the sounds of chirping birds and dripping raindrops add onto the track’s atmospheric feel. Layers of acoustic guitar and sentimental vocals are also present, with lyrics like, “Among the trees and the sky / It’s always you and I.” The new track can be found on the collaborative self-titled EP, “Wilderness,” which combines Arrow’s lyrical finesse with Noronha’s skills of acoustic arrangements to create a deeply personal project.
“I wanted to create a collection of songs dedicated to my family, each one wrapped in an acoustic soundscape that mirrors the deep emotions I feel,” says David Britto, the face behind Arrows. “The artwork, too, captures the essence of this EP.”
5. “Falling For You” – Amelie Lens
Closing out today’s selection is “Falling For You” by Belgian techno artist Amelie Lens. The new single weaves together layers of dynamic synths and high-energy beats to reflect the uncontrollable feeling of catching feelings for someone new. “And I … Never felt so alive / While I’m falling for you,” sings Lens, her iridescent vocals further enhancing the track’s hypnotic nature.
