Jason Ross is back with a brand-new EP, Divergence, a powerful five-track collection. Divergence features collaborations with Olivver the Kid, Fairlane, Brandyn Burnette, and Linney. The EP blends emotional depth with infectious beats, in true Jason Ross fashion. Known best for fusing different styles of music, he continues to impress as one of the most versatile and innovative artists on the scene.

At its core, Divergence is about growth, resilience, and finding strength in one’s identity while embracing new experiences. Ross himself has said that the EP reflects his exploration of different genres while staying true to his signature style. This dynamic balance between experimentation and consistency is what makes Divergence such a standout project.

Track-by-track breakdown.

Divergence opens with “Space Between,” featuring Olivver the Kid, which is emotionally charged yet uplifting. It truly sets the tone for the EP. The soft, pop-y elements blend seamlessly with upbeat sounds, while guitar riffs add an edge. The synth pulses during the chorus are a highlight, giving the track a unique vibe. Lyrically, it touches on a previous relationship, creating a thoughtful yet energetic opener that’s both catchy and layered.

Next up is “Wake Up,” featuring Fairlane, a softer track that leans into soulful vocals. The song builds slowly, with echoing vocals and rising riffs that create a powerful ascension. It’s a slower burn compared to “Space Between,” but the payoff is just as satisfying.

“No Tomorrow,” featuring Brandyn Burnette, marks a shift in tone, starting more somber than the previous songs. This track dives deeper into reflection, with Burnette’s vocals reminiscing about memories and old feelings. However, in classic Jason Ross style, the somber lyrics are counterbalanced by punchy, uplifting beats. It’s a clever way of disguising the emotional depth of the song.

The title track, “Divergence,” is where Ross’s talent as a producer shines. It’s an instrumental track that begins with creeping beats before exploding into a massive, infectious drop. Without lyrics, the track relies on its heavy electronic presence and intricate synth work. This song is a perfect demonstration of Ross’s ability to craft dance music that’s as emotionally powerful as it is energetic.

Finally, Divergence closes with “Last Time,” featuring Linney. The track opens with a nostalgic tape recording, creating an air of reflection before the beat begins to creep in. Linney’s clear, crisp vocals echo through the song, delivering a message of defiance and resolution. The upbeat dance rhythms keep the food light despite the seriousness of the lyrics, making it a track that invites you to move even as it resonates on a deeper level.

Emotional depth meets dancefloor energy.

What makes Divergence stand out is its ability to balance raw emotionality with the infectious energy of dance music. Each track has its own emotional story, whether it’s the reminiscing tone of “No Tomorrow” or the defiance in “Last Time.” Yet, the driving beats make the listener want to dance, even when the lyrics evoke deeper themes. It’s this contrast that makes Divergence feel so dynamic.

Upon discussing his latest project, Ross stated:

This project is a continuation of my previous EP, ‘Convergence,’ and is a journey through a spectrum of genres—from hardstyle and trance to melodic dubstep and more. ‘Divergence’ represents my exploration outside of my comfort zone, drawing inspiration from new styles while staying true to my sonic and artistic identity. It’s also a reflection of personal growth—embracing new people, places, and experiences that help shape who you are, yet staying true to yourself.

It’s worth mentioning what a standout year 2024 has been for Ross. He’s already shared the stage with Audien for a b2b duo performance that left audiences in awe. He’s also played major festivals like Beyond Wonderland and  Îlesoniq. As time goes on, Ross further cements his reputation as a force in the electronic music scene. With Divergence, Ross continues to build on this momentum, delivering a project that not only reflects his growth as an artist but also his ability to connect with listeners.

Without a doubt, Ross is becoming one of the most exciting artists to watch. With his Atlas Dimensions tour in full swing, fans will have plenty of opportunities to experience his craft live. The tour, which kicked off last month, runs through December. Don’t miss out!

For now, stream Divergence on Spotify and Apple Music.
