Knox Releases Pop Rock Hit “Not The 1975”

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Knox isn’t The 1975, and he knows that, hence the name of his latest single, “Not The 1975.”

Inspired by true events, “Not The 1975” is about a conversation Knox had with a girl who was curious about his music career. After telling the girl he’s a musician signed to Atlantic Records, she said, “That’s cool but you’re not Matty Healy,” referring to the lead singer of The 1975.

Knox turned that conversation into the chorus of his highly-anticipated hit, which he’s been teasing on social media in videos that have garnered more than 3 million views.

“Then she said, ‘I like your confidence but you’re not The 1975’

And, no lie, that’s quite the compliment

But I’m not really looking for somebody tonight

I said, ‘Girl, I might not be famous yet, but I’m gonna put you in a song that I write’

Then she said, ‘I like your confidence but you’re not The 197—, The 1975′”

Knox, “Not The 1975”

“Not The 1975” is an upbeat pop rock anthem featuring a four-on-the-floor drum beat, a sweet rhythm guitar and a chanty chorus so infectious you can’t help but sing and dance along to it. In addition to the title’s and chorus’s obvious nod to The 1975, Knox’s single also references The 1975’s songs “Chocolate” and “Oh Caroline” in both verses before the chorus, “Looking For Somebody (To Love)” in the chorus and “The Sound” in the outro’s guitar solo. And, to top it off, the accompanying visualizer features Knox wearing a Matty Healy-esque outfit as he smokes a cigarette while singing and dancing along to the song.

Fans of Knox can look forward to hearing his new song live during Nightly’s “Wear Your Heart Out Tour,” where he’ll be performing as a special guest. The tour kicks off Oct. 5 in Austin, Texas and will hit cities across the U.S. including Los Angeles, Minneapolis and Philadelphia before wrapping Nov. 16 in Nashville, Tennessee.
