Mothica has paved her own way into relevancy as an artist, taking to social media before exploding on the platform during the pandemic, and has since taken over festival lineups, has created her own label, and has begun to take the alternative music scene by storm. We chatted with her about her unique voice and what she has to offer next!
Oklahoma-born alternative artist, Mothica, has found an online community of her own, breaking down the “taboo” boundaries that are built around mental health struggles. Though she’s written music since she was a kid, she’s continued to pave the way on her own by releasing music independently online since she was eighteen, and found global success in the social media world. Since releasing a handful of EP’s, her achievements expanded unlike anything before upon the release of “buzzkill.” A story based on real life traumas, many fans related to her vulnerability and openness in her song’s messages then and followed up with a late-night themed full-length album, titled Nocturnal.
Making catchy songs built around complex subject matters and rich, artistic visuals, Mothica has thus far amassed over 280 million global streams. Her passionate fan base connects deeply with her open personality and inner struggles with past traumas, depression, and sobriety, and is sure to continue to inspire millions in the future. Mothica seeks to challenge stigmas surrounding mental health, using music as an outlet to depict a shared experience where anyone could relate.
As we grow more excited about her recent success, including a string of tours and rotating through every major rock music festival lineup, we are even more fired-up to hear what she has to offer next. Recently, Mothica has released the deluxe version of her latest album, and has been in the workings of writing her third. We chatted with her about her music’s mission, her passions, style, and what that album may look like.
