Sick Steen and Nicky Mackenzie capture the “Strange Mechanics” of life that are extraordinary, challenging, and everything in between in their latest release, which also marks their first-ever collaboration. There’s no doubt that humanity has endured a lot in its history and that these past few years have proven to be extremely challenging. Yet humanity also is equipped with an undeniable resiliency, an idea that is championed by this duo.

Steen is a Canadian composer, singer, songwriter, rapper, and mixing engineer living in Vancouver. Using producing techniques from a wide range of genres and gathering inspiration for Canada’s eclectic and diverse culture, Steen creates infectious music with unique characteristics found nowhere else. Nicky’s talent for capturing emotions in her lyrics and melodies never ceases to disappoint the ear. Originally from Salt Spring Island, Nicky now lives in the city of Vancouver where she performs, collaborates, and attends school for audio engineering and artist development. Her soulful vocals combined with R&B, jazz, and pop influences create an array of colors in her music that is not to be missed.

The duo leverages their diverse and individual talents to create a positive and heartfelt vibe in “Strange Mechanics.” Between Nicky’s illuminating vocals and Steen’s invigorating bars, there lies a dazzling neo-soul production that ties together the unmistakable warmth that flows from the track. The lyrics focus on self-growth and resilience, and the desire to do better in the world. The message of strength and perseverance is coupled with the compelling vocal performances by both artists. “Strange Mechanics” is the type of music that you can play while you have your morning coffee or if you’re cruising down the summertime street – it carries soothing and hypnotic energy that is sure to put a smile on your face.
