We have another epic collaboration from Oli Sykes and Yungblud. Announced just Monday morning, fans can put their thoughts at ease for the short wait, as “Happier” is out now!
With the fresh sound on the horizon, Yungblud has been making waves over the last couple of years. He’s quickly become known as a big voice for Gen-Z; creating a platform and a voice for youth who have not quite felt like they fit in. Through his lyricism and unique sound, Yungblud continues to pave the way for the next generation of music. It’s in this brand new collaboration that we see the artist’s potential continue to bloom.
Introduced with a futuristic beat, Yungblud’s vocals rage in the soundscape, creating a contrast to the feel of the instrumentals. The lyrics create a further push and pull between the fight to find healing, safeness, and something different than numbness. Oli Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon features vocals in this up-tempo melody.
About the single, Yungblud commented:
I have almost been conditioned by myself my whole life to be in pain. When I’m in pain I work better. I function better because I have something to combat. It’s dark but it’s all I’ve ever known. The feeling of happiness is scary because you feel like it’s all about to go wrong. I have always felt that if I’m happy I’ll get complacent so it’s lost me a lot of opportunity for friendships and relationships in the past. I got really emotional when writing this. I was craving another Yungblud song that would burn in my stomach, make me feel like it’s all gonna be ok and encourage me to fight back against old habits and try my best to re-align myself to be better. It’s ok to find happiness, it’s ok to feel it. I hope you find a little bit of it in this song. You deserve it. Everyone does.
When you spend so long in the same numbness, the same state of not quite depressed but not quite happy, there’s almost this fear of feeling again. Yungblud and Oli Sykes manage to capture the moment of this panic seamlessly, while encouraging fans to take that leap. Finding happiness is a scary thing when you’ve spent so long in the darkness, but it’s worth the fight.
