Addressing the gender gap in music production and songwriting, Music Publishers Canada announced applications are open for the 2024 Women in the Studio National Accelerator. Now entering its sixth year, the program is designed to provide enriching opportunities and networking experiences for producer-songwriters who identify as women, gender-fluid, non-binary, and gender non-conforming, hailing from all corners of Canada.
Established in 1949, Music Publishers Canada continues to champion the interests of music publishers in Canada through advocacy, communication, and education. The Women in the Studio National Accelerator, supported by RBC, FACTOR, the Government of Canada, as well as Ontario Creates, aims to empower and uplift those who have been historically underrepresented in the music production space.
The Women in the Studio National Accelerator is designed to equip participants with skills and connections that may typically be inaccessible to underrepresented folks in the industry. The curriculum, which spans from June to December 2024, covers technical and songwriting skills, branding, financial and music business literacy, and fosters opportunities for creative collaborations. The program also underscores the significance of community involvement, urging each producer to explore volunteer opportunities in their local area.
Eligible candidates should possess experience in producing for others, demonstrate proficiency in at least one digital audio workstation (DAW), and provide a streamable link to three examples of their produced works, specifying if they are also credited as a co-writer or artist.
All applications will be reviewed by an external jury, and successful candidates will proceed to an interview stage. Music Publishers Canada emphasizes that only those selected will be contacted. Prospective candidates have until February 27, 2024, to apply online and become a catalyst for positive change in the dynamic world of music creation.
