Why Being a Hater is Good Sometimes!

For those of you who aren’t suffering from a generational condition commonly known as Hater’s Disease, you might be unaware of the viral anthem that rocked TikTok for a while. For those of you that are, congratulations! You may be entitled to financial compensation in the next 10-20 years due to being clinically online! Infinity Song, a band consisting of siblings, went viral on TikTok during the fall of 2023 for their metacommentary around the fear of falling behind.

Infinity Song aptly captures the notion of this feeling, better known as haterism, in their classic, “Hater’s Anthem.” With the rise of social media and the ease of seeing others’ achievements, the feeling of falling behind has become pervasive. This has led to a growing sense of resentment and disinterest among Gen Z, who can see their peers’ accomplishments at their fingertips. Infinity Song details this feeling, with satirical lyrics:

I love the way it feels to be a hater
Something so sweet about thinking that I’m better
Just to wake up every morning
Lay in bed and somehow never, ever rise to the occasion
Or even hold up under pressure

TikTok virality has become a new wave for artists to reach prominence with music. It’s a state-of-the-art marketing social machine to manifest new creations, seemingly out of thin air. That is not to say Infinity Song is new to the music world, as they were already signed by Roc Nation in 2016. TikTok has managed to increase the presence of young musicians with their short-form content and snippet incorporation of music, helping artists like Infinity Song gain a larger fanbase.

When Infinity Song is not writing the soundtrack to our inner thoughts we only express under burner accounts on Instagram, they are releasing the soulful soft rock music of our dreams. They have recently released an anthology album, dubbed Infinity Song Essentials, making a perfect blend of their latest album release Metamorphosis, and debut album Mad Love. You can also see recent promotions of song “Slow Burn“, a ballad about maturation seen through the lens of living and loving.

Make sure to follow Infinity Song on Instagram, Spotify, and YouTube.
