Following the release of the Canada based DJ sensation Whipped Cream’s latest EP Is This Real, she unveiled her live Is This Real Spotlight DJ Mix Set on 1001 Tracks.
The perpetually creating, Toronto born Caroline Cecil knows how to mesmerize a crowd. Once a competitive figure skater, she went from spinning on ice to spinning records as Whipped Cream. Treading her own path in the world of music and production, she creates otherworldly soundscapes. Inspired by Hans Zimmer, Kanye or Skrillex, she vividly expresses her love for the craft through her live performances. Above and beyond her talent as a DJ and a producer, Whipped Cream is also a singer-songwriter, immersing herself in genres such as hip hop, cinema, electronica and more.
In celebration of her latest EP Is This Real, Whipped Cream brought her incredible talent as a DJ to the scenic Vancouver Island in Canada, treating us to a wide array of sonic bliss, featuring tracks from Charli XCX, Fred again.., Kendrick Lamar, Kaskade, Skrillex, and many more next to her very own creations.
Watch Whipped Creams “Is This Real” Spotlight DJ Mix Set on 1001 Tracks below
She starts the set with the beautifully atmospheric “On My Way” by Kaskade, introducing us to the breathtaking journey through the soundscapes that are her Is This Real Spotlight DJ Mix Set on 1001 Tracks. She smoothly transitions from one song to the next in a beautiful medley. Whipped Cream masterfully incorporates an exhilarating blend of Bass, House, and Trap. With a setlist that is going to make many listeners happy, this performance is one of a kind.
“If U Need It” by Sammy Virji, with a wide range in vocals and an increasingly powerful beat, serves as the perfect interlude. It builds up to Whipped Cream’s first original track of the set “I Am A God,” which she created in collaboration with Nostalgix. Rising in intensity, the track combines a potent mixture of synths and heavy bass, perfect for any rave.
Continuing with another track by Whipped Cream & BKAYE, “real 4 me” starts out with a calmer intro. However, it’s only the calm before the storm. It soon picks up the pace before transitioning into “I Wonder (SJAYY Remix)” by Kanye West.
Whipped Cream has a way to combine all these different tracks and artists into one organic experience. Giants such as Kendrick Lamar with “Not Like Us (SJAYY Remix)” and Ice Spice with “Think U The Sh*t (F*rt) (Ballads Remix)” with their high-octane vibes team up in a powerful buildup to the next track by Whipped Cream, “Rewind (But I Love You) (Aomp3 Remix).” This track in particular boasts what likely is the most striking beat of the set. “All I Need (Matt Seid Flip)” by Slushii is the perfect follow-up to “Rewind (But I Love You) (Aomp3 Remix),” as it makes use of similarly vibrant synth beats, promising to set any dance floor ablaze.
“ID” by Careline is overall on the calmer side again and seems to echo the heavy synth beats from earlier. However, throughout the track it feels like something is building up again. This feeling continues with the track “Leray (Careline & Altierr Remix)” by Trippie Redd and build up something it does. We’re treated to a heavy bass-drop, leading into one of the highlights of the set. “Back 2 Back” from Charli XCX’s hit album Brat once more ignites the already blazing fire of the set at its halfway point.

As we can see the beautifully scenic landscapes of Vancouver Island, Whipped Cream treats us to “Show You A Feeling” by Childsmind, which sonically is the perfect successor to “Back 2 Back.” Once again, Whipped Cream’s sense for combinations is impeccable. Swiftly and fluidly we move on to “Badders” by Skrillex, PEEKABOO, G-REX and Flowdan. The mixture of rap with the powerful synth beats is a wonderful precursor to another masterpiece by Whipped Cream herself. Featuring Trent Madison, “Promises” contrasts the tough rap from the previous track with angelic, yet powerful vocals, coupled with striking beats, creating a mysterious atmosphere.
Drake featuring Yeat are up next with “IDGAF,” returning the set to another wave of high-octane rap. Travis Scott featuring Playboi Carti gladly take over as Whipped Cream skillfully transitions into their track “FE!N.” Repeatedly, we can see idyllic shots of Vancouver Island’s forests as well as retro camera views of Whipped Cream and her setup, absolutely rocking the show. Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar follow up with “Family Ties,” combining trumpets and heavy beats, creating of the most upbeat tracks of the set.
Whipped Cream puts on “Stayin It (Altierr Remix)” by Lil Yacht & Fred Again as we approach the final section of the set. The track seems to serve as an interlude to “Breaking Minds” by Elio Riso and Lucio Spain. Before the set closes, we get to enjoy two more stunning originals by Whipped Cream. “Still?” lets her absolutely angelic voice shine. Her beautiful and soft vocals stand in contrast to heavy beats in a delicate dance that evokes the melancholic feeling of a lonely sunset on a supper evening.
The set ends with a track that couldn’t possibly fit any better, “Is This Real? (Interlude)” by Whipped Cream. The track tells us to make the most of the time we have and not to take things to seriously. A beautiful sentiment that leaves us looking forward to her next set.
