Where’s Beth’s New Folk-Pop Gem Is A Heavenly Love Song

“If Only For This” isn’t just any love song. Released today, the latest release by Where’s Beth featuring John Mark Nelson is an intricate exploration of love and spirituality. The indie folk-pop track is characterized by a sound where a wistful hymn meets a love ballad, religious references woven throughout.

“If Only For This” upends my religious upbringing that taught it was wrong to love the world or anyone in it more than god. The haunted and delicate love song is re-enchanted as it is disillusioned, connecting to the divine through so-called “distractions.”

Sarabeth Weszely (Where’s Beth)

Where’s Beth — singer-songwriter Sarabeth Weszely — is a master at storytelling, carefully crafting a narrative of the intersection of religious devotion and romantic love. Sarabeth’s music feels like an intimate conversation, warm and vulnerable, inspiring introspection for listeners.

Acclaimed songwriter and producer John Mark Nelson collaborated with Sarabeth to self-record the track in both their home studios. The product feels both personal and expansive.

Soft guitar drives this ethereal track, while breathtaking, almost angelic harmonies float and evolve. Sarabeth’s crystal-clear voice opens, followed by John’s deeper but just as soft tone. When their voices blend, the effect is heavenly. Their duet represents a wondrous love and profound connection, intertwined with their spiritual identities.

When I am honest I don’t really know what to say
It’s easier to touch than to pray
So I will bury my shoulder under your chin
And keep my words against your skin

“If Only For This”

“If Only For This” is another single off Where Beth’s upcoming LP, Bone Broth, slated for release Sept. 20. Along with three other singles — “Devotion,” “Quiet,” and “I Am No Conqueror” — it’s clear Bone Broth will be yet another sonically captivating listen.
