A month after the initial premier of Victoria Monét’s single “Coastin'”, the American songwriter has released a sumptuous 70’s inspired music video to accompany her highly acclaimed R&B track. Having described this song as “a love letter to California,” the washed-out and yet lush colors of the visuals perfectly accentuate Monét’s vision. Starring herself, her mother, her grandmother, and prominent Internet personality Rickey Thompson, this music video features a distinctly summery and laidback visual; eating pancakes in a washed out diner, the titular “coastin'” down a seaside highway with the roof down, and dancing on the beach.

“Coastin'” was first released on August 5th of this year, enthusiastically received by fans, critics, and platforms such as Billboard, VICE, and Teen Vogue. The track was produced by The Stereotypes, who’ve worked with other notable artists such as Usher, Bruno Mars, and Cardi B. Receiving over 4.5 million streams, Coastin’ rose to the #1 spot on the US Urban Adult Contemporary Radio list. HYPEBAE describes the song as “the perfect track to listen to on the road, by the pool or at the beach.” With both an explicit and a clean version of the song, Victoria Monét delivers a luscious, sun-drenched experience through both the vintage direction of the video’s camera angles and the flirtatious lyrics of this 2021 summertime anthem.

This won’t be the last we’ll be hearing from Victoria this year—she’ll be collaborating with Cash App Studios and performing at H.E.R’s Lights On Festival in Brooklyn and Day N’ Vegas this fall, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, experience this Californian gold before the summer is out. Watch the Official Video here and stream “Coastin‘” here!
