October 15th saw the release of the reworked single “Missing Piece (Sofi Tukker Remix)” featuring Vance Joy and the new addition of GRAMMY-nominated DJ Sofi Tukker. The original track that dropped last summer, simply named “Missing Piece,” was written by Joy and Joel Little and continues to be streamed two million times every week in just the US. The original single can be viewed from its feature on Grey’s Anatomy, and Joy’s performance of the song on The Late Late Show with James Corden here.
The new version of “Missing Piece” is much more upbeat, and gives more of a carefree sound than anything else. Although the same lyrics are present, “Missing Piece (Sofi Tukker Remix)” gives the original added life with a brand new electronic beat and the heart racing sound of other newly added instruments. The song itself speaks about connecting with your other half. Through and through, Joy’s creation is a love song, and in the chorus he expresses this by saying “when I’m in a room with you, that missing piece is found. You know when you’re by my side darling, nothing can bring us down.”
Australian born singer songwriter Vance Joy is no stranger to global success. His debut song, the ukulele-lead and instant smash hit “Riptide,” has become a classic in every aspect of the definition. Since taking the world by storm in 2013, Joy has toured with Taylor Swift in her 1989 World Tour, and performed at numerous festivals, most notably being seen at Coachella and Lollapalooza. All of this is due to Joy’s masterful lyric writing, how all of his songs are so intimate and easy to connect to. It’s a type of charm that absolutely no one can resist.
