Valley Releases Bubbly New Single “CHAMPAGNE”

It all started in 2016 when a local studio double-booked two bands that would merge to form Valley. Six years later, the four piece band from Toronto has three albums under its belt, a headlining tour, and is slated to open the 51st Annual JUNO Awards where Valley is nominated for “Group Of The Year.” From the very beginning of the band’s career, Valley has been known to split its vocals between lead singer Rob Laska and drummer Karah James. With the release of their new single “CHAMPAGNE” Karah takes center stage by taking the lead vocals. Her trademark smooth and subtle vocals are amplified and take on a new air of power and dynamics that are truly welcomed.

As drummer Karah notes, “CHAMPAGNE” came about during a time when the band was “experiencing a lot of adversity with such a shift in our routine, our band, our social lives and with all of those changes our mental health suffered.” This cultural shift is something that virtually everyone can relate to. While being distanced from friends and loved ones was difficult, Valley didn’t let this distance stop them from working with two writers that they’d always dreamed of working with; Jake Torrey and Johnny Simpson. Through Zoom sessions, the group combined their songwriting abilities and “CHAMPAGNE” was born.

“When I’m shining you’re the thundercloud. When I’m thriving you pull me underground.”

Although the lyrics in the verses depict situations in which the odds are stacked against you, the chorus comes around to challenge, “You can break my heart I’m not broken. I can build a house with the stones you’re throwing.” In the band’s own words, “CHAMPAGNE” is simply “a song about not letting the negativity of the world bring you down and turning the pain we feel into something positive. It’s about reframing our narratives on challenging situations and people and telling ourselves that sticks and stones may break our bones, but you can’t break something that won’t break.”

My idea of the perfect date? "That's a tough one. I'd have to say April 25th, because it's not too hot, not too cold. All you need is a light jacket." -Miss Congeniality
