The Shandies Drop “Day Trip Tuesday” with a Twist

Summer is fast approaching, and there are plenty of fun summer songs to add to this year’s summer playlist. One track that would be the perfect addition is “Day Trip Tuesday” from The Shandies. “Day Trip Tuesday” is a fun, synth-pop record about just dropping all responsibilities, from work to taking care of the kids, going on a trip with that special someone, and having a fun little day trip.

Listen to “Day Trip Tuesday” below:

The track is heavy with synth, a major change from their previous work. This change, though, works perfectly with “Day Trip Tuesday” as it creates a nostalgic vibe of summer’s past. The bright, sunny sound of the instrumental also is reminiscent of the carefree feeling of going on a short trip to get away from the stresses of life.

Lyrically, the song reinforces the feelings of escaping for a fun little day, with lines such as, “We can do anything/ There’s always enough time” and “A little getaway/ Is what we need to survive.” The song’s last verse also alludes to the trips Stine and Wlodarczyk would take at the beginning of the pandemic to get out of the house. These trips to get outside were actually the inspiration for “Day Trip Tuesday.”

Alongside the release of the single, The Shandies and their local craft brewery, Wire Road Brewing, teamed up to release the brewery’s first non-alcoholic beer, also titled “Day Trip Tuesday.” The band has played at Wire Road Brewing multiple times since it first opened in January 2022, and so the collaboration seemed perfect to The Shandies and brewery owner Kary Walker.

You can read more about the partnership in the Springfield News-Leader.

Formed back in 2016, The Shandies are Shannon Stine and Natalie Wlodarczyk, a married, mostly acoustic duo from Springfield, Missouri. The band blends their unique musical backgrounds to create a distinctive and entertaining listening experience they dubbed “folky pop-rock.” The Shandies released their first album, Begin Again, in 2017, followed by Lemon Peel in 2019, and their EP, The Mid-Americana Sound Sessions, in 2022. Their songs explore everything from love and heartbreak to identity. The band is releasing their fourth album, If You Knew Me, in July, featuring “Day Trip Tuesday.”
