The Danger Of Toxic Relationships Is Explored In Sarah King’s Newest Single, “Blame It On The Booze”

Sarah King’s latest single, “Blame It On The Booze,” should be on everyone’s radar, as it bundles together haunting vocals, catchy lyrics, and a dynamic melody. “Blame It On The Booze” tells the dark but realistic story of falling into a toxic relationship and the effects it can have on the victim.

Despite the song’s dark themes, the instrumental’s tempo keeps “Blame It On The Booze” from feeling too heavy. There is also a moment later in the song when Sarah sings an offering to help, “I can come and help you/ If you just give me a shout.” “Blame It On The Booze” contains many lyrics that are not only catchy but also poetic and meaningful. Lines such as “All you taste is whiskey and mistakes” along with the verse, “It’s unwise to linger over dreams/ When you find life isn’t what it seems/ You can end up going to extremes/ Where your ends justify your means,” will remain in the listener’s head long after the song finishes.  

The chorus also contains well-crafted lyrics such as, “Nothing more dangerous/Then a man who lost his shadow/He’s got nothing left to lose.” Later in the song, the lyrics from the chorus switch focus onto the woman, “Nothing more dangerous/ Then a woman pushed to new lows/She’s got nothing left to lose.” Sarah King’s vocals add further emotional intensity to the song. Her voice is clear and crisp, but there are moments within the song where her voice cracks or rasps, along with well-placed vibratos, which make the song’s meaning hit the listener.
