Tegan and Sara Release New Song “F*****g Up What Matters”

Canadian duo Tegan and Sara have finally released their first track since signing with new label, Mom+Pop Music. The artists were previously signed to Sire/Warner by Michael Goldstone in 2006, but he would eventually leave the label to start his own. Now in 2022, Tegan and Sara have come full circle to work alongside Goldstone at his new label, Mom+Pop Music.

“F*****g Up What Matters” is the first taste that audiences will get from the duo’s upcoming album. This tenth (yes, you read that correctly, tenth) album will usher in a new era of life and music for the sisters. As they explain, “’F*****g Up What Matters’ felt like an ode to the moment in your life when you realize that you have most, if not all of the things you wanted and you start to think about what would happen if you just walked away from it all. It’s the moment in the middle of the night when you start to daydream about something else, something you never imagined. It’s the feeling you have when you think you might have hit a new low, and yet you’ve never felt so good. Sometimes it’s admitting that you can’t stop yourself from f*****g up what matters, that you feel your strongest. And as my mom would say, it’s often when we’re f******g up what matters, that we’re learning the most about ourselves.”

And learn from themselves they absolutely do. In this new single, Tegan and Sara deliver a light and cheerful sound, reminiscent of “the best of” the duo’s music.

In the music video for “F*****g Up What Matters,” Tegan and Sara again explore the notion of “the good old days.” In an interview that opens up the music video, Tegan and Sara discuss everything that they’ve already done for a music video and chuckle at the thought that the only thing they haven’t done is make a music video about how to make a music video.

What comes next is three minutes of behind the scenes music video location scouting and instructions on how to create an eye-catching visual representation of music.
