T. G. Shand Has Us On The Edge Of Our “Seats”

On December 16th, New Zealand artist Annemarie Duff released the latest song from her bedroom pop project T. G. Shand. “Seats” is equal parts dream pop and shoegaze, clean production and distortion. Jumping between these two modes might seem confusing on the surface, but T. G. Shand executes it flawlessly and effortlessly.

Their sound has often been described as “dreamy,” and “Seats” is no exception. Though there are moments that would absolutely wake you up, the distance given to the guitar in the mix allows the bass and drums to take over. The vocal production is exceptional for the style, and the reverb gives Duff’s voice a haziness and an ethereal quality that make the song stand out even more.

There’s so much to say that I’m honestly at a loss for words. “Seats” is a phenomenal song that is performed and produced impeccably. The shoegaze influence lets the dream pop seep through and stand out, and though the song jumps between these two styles, it does it effortlessly. There is no downtime here. Everything is equally as engaging.

Check it out below if you’re intrigued! T. G. Shand has a promising future, and I can’t wait to see where Duff takes the project.

Obsessed with all things music. Finished that MFA, so now I’m apparently a master of this. Bouncing around state borders, going wherever. If you see me at a show, say hey!
