Ellur Releases “Innocent (Dreaming)”

On December 15th, British dream pop artist Ellur released her latest single, “Innocent (Dreaming).” Let me cut right to the chase: this song sounds like if The Cure and CHVRCHES switched eras. We’ve seen the latter work with the frontman of the former on the 2021 track “How Not To Drown,” and it was incredible. Equally incredible is this track from Ellur.

The lyrics are straight to the point, doing their best to not obscure Ellur’s true feelings. The confusion of the relationship she’s singing about is palpable. Further, though the lead synth line and guitar riff sound similar to Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” Ellur doesn’t dwell on this influence. She works with it to create something that is quick and catchy for a modern pop audience. This is no small feat, and she deserves all the praise we can give.

“Innocent (Dreaming)” is equal parts confusion, melancholy, and inspiration. The pieces all merge together how they’re supposed to, and Ellur is only 20. Who knows where she’ll go with this project? One thing’s for sure: I can’t wait to see what happens.

Check out “Innocent (Dreaming)” below, and let us know what you think!

Obsessed with all things music. Finished that MFA, so now I’m apparently a master of this. Bouncing around state borders, going wherever. If you see me at a show, say hey!
