Recounting his journey of rags to riches, South Florida’s T.A.Y gives listeners a formal, yet vibey, introduction to what has made him the artist he is today in “way up.” The track, which mirrors the trajectory of his musical career in an equally satisfying manner, is the lead track off his debut EP, i don’t really do this, which was released in August 2021. A collaborative by nature, T.A.Y has proven he is committed to quality by committee, surrounding himself with a talented group of people in his journey,

Known for his unique sound that can only be described as “feel-good” in nature, T.A.Y infuses “way up” with that same sensibility. It is, after all, a recollection of the journey the songwriter had from living on a friends couch with no money to having his name known through his musical success. With the help of fellow songwriter Tyvonn, T.A.Y gives listeners a catchy soundscape to bop along to. Silky vocals add to the effortless feeling that is created by the jazz-infused, chill-hop beat production, giving way to quick-hitting rhymes and witty bars that cover the T.A.Y’s trajectory. “way up” closes out with resounding chants of the hook and cheers backing the closing verse, leaving listeners feeling equally excited for T.A.Y’s career and excited for their own day from the cheerful energy.
