Spooky season is in full swing and there’s no better way to get in the spirit than by listening to SUCKERPUNCH!’s newest single, “Freak Show.” With a thematically appropriate release date of Friday the 13th, the track has quickly proven to be this year’s song of the season.

“Freak Show,” like much of SUCKERPUNCH!’s discography, is a pop punk anthem that plays the line between 2000s golden era and nu-wave pop punk. While blistering guitar riffs and pulsating drums ground the song, bold vocals give it an edgy, rebellious sound that perfectly suits the story it tells. Thanks to help from heavy hitter alternative music producer Anton Delost, the production cleverly incorporates eerie ‘80s keyboards and scary movie samples that emphasize the haunting minor chord riff underlying the song.
Inspired by the band’s love of slasher films and all things horror, “Freak Show” tells the story of two outcasts who find solace in each other.
But you’re just like me,
Livin’ every Friday like it’s the 13th
We’ll never be
A picture perfect poster made for the big screen
SUCKERPUNCH! in “Freak Show”
Through irresistibly catchy melodies, its lyrics rebel against conformity and offer a liberating reminder to the misfits and the misunderstood: Embrace your inner freak. Always dare to be different and never shy away from being yourself because no matter what, you’ll surely find someone who’s just like you.
