While British singer, songwriter, dancer, and across Sophie Naglik has only just hit her second decade, she’s already built up quite the artistic resume. A recent graduate of the prestigious BRIT School, Sophie began her career in musical theatre, earning roles in a variety of hit West End shows, including Matilda the Musical and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. When she’s not busy preparing for a role, she’s pouring her heart into songwriting. She ultimately hopes that her new songs will resonate with others. “I connect with music so much,” she says, “so the thought that my songs could connect with someone else makes me so happy.”
Her latest single, “Pick Your Side,” is an emotional ballad that expressed the pressures of having to choose who or what you want in your life. Sophie says, “It’s about love, jealousy, and feeling lost. I wanted to express feelings from both sides of the story. It’s not hateful, but instead more understanding.” It seems as though she’s transferred some of her experiences in the musical theatre to this song with the soaring big-room piano composition and layering vocal arrangements. Her solemnly sweet voice carries the lyrics which carry the message of relentless heartbreak – having your heart being torn in two directions but being given an ultimatum. Her astounding vocal performance breathes a passionate sorrow into this song. It’s beautifully bittersweet and a lovely showcase of the talent Sophie has to share with us all.
