As their first project as a couple, the GRAMMY nominated, multi-Platinum artists, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco team up for a grand album called I Said I Love You First which we can enjoy on March 21. However, Gomez and Blanco give us a little sneak peek of what we can expect on the album, with their latest single “Scared of Loving You.”
Selena Gomez is one of the most beloved multitalented artists, actors and activists of her time. As a musician alone, she has sold upwards of 197 million singles and reached more than 34 billion streams globally. Having released three studio albums to great success, as well as having been nominated for the GRAMMYs, EMMY, Golden Globe and BAFTA, Gomez is an unstoppable force in the world of music and film alike.
Benny Blanco is an iconic and incredibly versatile artist, active in the fields of song writing and producing, acting, as a record executive, New York Times bestselling author and more. Through his work, he was in no small part responsible for the enormous sales numbers of albums by giants such as Ed Sheeran, SZA, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Juice WRLD, Sia, and more. His own albums FRIENDS KEEP SECRETS and FRIENDS KEEP SECRETS 2 not only reached platinum status, but they have garnered in excess of 11 billion streams as well.
Written as a trio by Gomez, Blanco and GRAMMY winner FINNEAS, “Scared of Loving You” celebrates Gomez’ long-awaited return to music. Not only that, but it is a statement of her masterful storytelling as well. Their collaborative album I Said I Love You First is a piece of art that grew out of their love for each other. It sheds light on Gomez’ and Blanco’s relationship and the beautiful connection they share through creating authentic and meaningful art together. Furthermore, it is a testament to their mutual trust in being vulnerable around each other. Beyond that, the album takes us on a very personal journey through their relationship, from before falling in love to what the future might hold for them.

“Scared of Loving You” has an incredibly soft, warm and comfortable atmosphere to it. Carried by mellow acoustic guitars and Gomez’ loving voice, the song feels like a safe space. In it, she seeks reassurance that the relationship will last through difficult times. Above that, she states that she is not afraid of losing Blanco, or dying young, or anything like that, because she is sure that no one else could love him like she does.
Alongside the song, Gomez and Blanco released a beautiful lyric video, adding to the atmosphere of love.
