Sam Smith and Madonna are Proud to Get “Vulgar”
Last week, lighting rod artists Sam Smith and Madonna released a teasing visual for their collaborative single “Vulgar.” The anthem is fearless and bold, celebrating the joining of two wild, creative minds. Smith and Madonna, aka S&M, magically punctuate their musical aesthetic as well as their fierce beliefs with “Vulgar,” incorporating sickening hooks and earth-shattering bass. The single was released by Capitol Records, produced by a range of talents: ILYA for MXM Productions, Cirkut, Omer Fedi, Ryan Tedder, Jimmy Napes, Sam and Lauren D’elia, Madonna’s vocal producer and engineer.
“Vulgar,” opening with a powerful, almost eerily creeping introduction, captures listeners on sight. Sam sings of stripper heels and Madonna fashion, followed up by Madonna’s own cheeky verse, “boy get down on your knees cause I am Madonna.” The duo creates a witty lyrical back and forth that plays on their own fabulousness and sexual prowess. The visual, with “S&M” in big pink block letters on top, is a stylish black and white photo of a corseted waist, one half Smith’s and the other half Madonna’s.

Madonna in “Vulgar”
Back in February, Madonna introduced Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ arresting GRAMMY Award show performance. The award show was the day before she and Smith would go to record “Vulgar,” and Madonna gave a heartfelt speech on the truth and passion behind Smith’s music, as well as toasting toward their attitude as an artist as a whole.
“Are you ready for some controversy? If they call you shocking, scandalous, troublesome, problematic, provocative or dangerous, you are definitely onto something.”

Smith’s fourth studio album, Gloria, has sold over 40 million copies worldwide, and the North American leg of GLORIA The Tour will be launching on July 25th. Madonna, best-selling female artist of all time, joins Smith in their pursuit to push boundaries and transform culture. She will kick off her highly anticipated global Celebration Tour in July as well.
