Combining her classical training with her passion for R&B, SALEKA returns with self-written and produced “RELEASE.” It is the lead single to her father M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming film, ‘TRAP.’ The story depicts SALEKA as “Lady Raven,” an artist whose concert is a clever, thrilling set-up for catching a serial killer. The track briefly appeared in a recent trailer, building anticipation for the 14-song original soundtrack titled LADY RAVEN.

“RELEASE” opens with powerful, emotional piano chords, supporting SALEKA’s dark and smooth vocal timbre. Elegant swells of strings intensify the drama, adding another layer of sincerity and sophistication. In an airy, fluttering falsetto, SALEKA sings:

I won’t grieve, I won’t plead, I’ll release you from me

SALEKA, “RELEASE” from the film ‘TRAP’

SALKEA’s artistic journey began at just four years old with piano lessons, sparking excitement and a sense of devotion towards music that would last a lifetime. Growing up, she learned from observing various influences such as Bollywood movies, Latin music, and iconic stars like JAY-Z and Amy Winehouse. From conservatory visits to completing Brown University’s Music program, SALEKA has shown immense growth and continues to make a name for herself in the R&B space. Her debut independent album Séance displayed her singing, songwriting, and producing talents with a dynamic range of 13 songs. Upon its release, she received praise from notable outlets such as WWD, Rated R&B, Forbes, and NYLON.

Conversations about music-centric films between SALEKA and her father inspired ‘TRAP’ to fruition. While writing and producing LADY RAVEN, SALEKA worked aside ‘TRAP’s narrative and script, ensuring a thoughtful and cohesive body of work.

The film stars SALEKA and Oppenheimer’s Josh Hartnett, a loving father who takes his teen daughter to a concert, over time noticing eerie and threatening events surrounding them. ‘TRAP’ is to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and played in U.S. theaters on August 9, 2024. It was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and co-produced with Steven Schneider, Ashwin Rajan, and Marc Beinstock.

Stream “RELEASE” on Spotify and Apple Music and prepare for an unforgettable concert thriller experience this summer with SALEKA in ‘TRAP.’
