On October 15, LA-based singer and songwriter Ryan Levine releases his new single and music video, “I Miss the War.” This track comes off of his new debut EP, Good Things to Remember, which is set to release in November 19.
This soul-baring alternative single is styled like a confessional. According to Ryan, the song “admits, almost shamefully, how much power toxic relationships can have over you, even when you think you’ve moved on from them.” With emotive lyrics, sweeping instrumentals, and dream-like visuals to accompany the song’s theme of guilty admission, longing, and regret. This new single is the latest in a previously released lineup of tracks, including Signs,” and “You Don’t Hold The Cards Anymore.”

Since 2014, Ryan Levine was a member of indie band Wildling and contributed his songwriting abilities and unique musicality. When the band broke up in 2018, Ryan powered through the aftermath by continuing his songwriter. He recorded voice memos and home demos, dealing with loss and grief, and eventually began recording his new EP in 2020 alongside co-producer Kevin Ratterman, who worked with other notable artists such as My Morning Jacket and Ray LaMontagne.
The resulting songs that surfaced from these years of work were rich with pathos. A study in introspection, it is evident that Ryan processed many of his emotions through the medium of his songwriting, subsequently leading to an emotive, rich experience that seems to bring the writer some semblance of peace. According to Glide Magazine, Ryan “brings a tenaciously soulful approach to folk and root music…showering us with his emotive vocals that spawn the low key experimental mood swings of The National up through Hozier.”
