“‘Appetite for Disaster’ represents my quest for the ‘impossible’ and my unwillingness to settle. This EP was created during one of the most challenging times of my life…Deep within that hunger that sometimes feels dangerous I keep going back for more, in hopes to feel satisfied by my art and my place in the world.”

Without further ado, let’s jump into Appetite for Disaster

Starting off with the upbeat and feel good track, iyla gives listeners “Mona Lisa.” Balancing both beautiful harmonies and lyrical rapping this track is about how good she feels in this particular relationship. The lyrics of this track are fun and bounce off the beat so easily.
However, this light romantic feeling is short-lived because next up on Appetite for Disaster is the track, “Grey.” Listeners of this track sit with the beat of the song for a moment and truly grasp the atmosphere of the song. Once iyla’s vocals are introduced we are graced with incredible word play highlighting stages of a toxic relationship.
In her next track, “Sad B*tch Bad B*tch” highlights the end of a toxic relationship. More specifically this track highlights the famous glow up stage after a break up. Opening up with a more synthesized beat, iyla sets a futuristic tone for the rest of the tone. As the track progresses, we are graced with a balance of rap and vocals from iyla.
“Starting with the fact I’m savage / I’m a sad b*tch, still a bad b*tch / Act brand new like I’m wrapped in plastic / I ain’t even trippin over that sh*t / I don’t get mad, I get pretty”
Sad B*tch Bad B*tch lyris
Light up your incense and rid the negative energy around you with the next track, “Impala” featuring Los Angeles-based rapper, Symba. Being the focus single of this EP, “Impala” is a personal track by iyla as she shamelessly tells her journey of freeing herself from a toxic relationship however, still dealing with the back and forth feeling that comes with leaving.
With the release of Appetite for Disaster came the official music video for “Impala that encapsulates the attachment iyla faces in this track. Take a look and let us know what you think in the comments!
Next up on the EP is the track, “FOH.” Released last year, “FOH” takes a different approach than the previous tracks. It opens with a sample of 1960’s-styled scatting and then melts seamlessly into a more modern beat. Like, “Sad B*itch Bad B*tch,” iyla amazes listeners with a balance of rapping and singing. As the title suggests, this track is a message to all fake supporters to “FOH.”
“2Late” is the next track on the EP, and like “FOH” iyla continues to surprise listeners. This track opens up with no yodeling! This is a track that reinforces the “a little too late” sentiment that resonates with most break up songs. The lyrics exude boss energy and displays iyla’s strength punctuated with the roaring electric guitar instrumentals at the end of the song.
“It’s not my job to turn a boy into a man (doom-doom-doom, da-da) / Pick up where you left off, I am not the one to be slept on / Made your bed now sleep in that sh*t, how would it feel without me?”

The last track of the album, “Lost Me,” featuring Benny The Butcher concludes the rollercoaster of emotions that is Appetite for Disaster. Deemed to be the “heartbreak anthem” by HipHopDX,
“Lost Me” is a track of finally moving on and letting go of that toxic relationship.
Appetite for Disaster has proven to be a very personal and artistically freeing project for iyla. Since the release of her debut EP, War + Raindrops, the LA-based artist has garnered 100 million streams across all platforms.
