R&B star, Tank has just dropped his newest single “I Deserve” along with it’s official music video via R&B Money/Atlantic Records. This is the culmination of a long-lasting and acclaimed career for the grammy-nominated artist as this track samples his 2001 hit single, “Maybe I Deserve.” Now instead of having his baby cheat on him, she’s left him for a new man and Tank soulfully reminisces and regrets while assuring it’s what “I Deserve.”
While Tank might not be the most recognizable R&B superstar, he is certainly one of the most talented and respected, having been in the industry for two decades. This widespread career includes the gold-certified debut album FORCE OF NATURE (2001), grammy-nominated album SEX, LOVE & PAIN (2007), and most recently he has branched out into other media with his podcast and Youtube reality series.
The versatility and inventiveness of Tank is once again showcased in the paired music video for “I Deserve.” Tank stars alongside Adam Waheed and Juhuhan Jones, directed by Matt Alonzo in a humorously parodied video of “Maybe I Deserve.” The video follows Waheed and Jones as they “save” R&B Tank by taking him back to his roots with shots and aesthetics that transport you back to 2001.
Whether you’re a long time fan or new one, this video has nothing but sentimental soul to it. It adds a light-hearted spin to the emotively crushing lyrics as Waheed and Jones bring the laughs and Tank brings the charm. It pokes fun at the cliches and tropes of R&B videos (including Tank’s own) but more so, it pays homage to how classic they are. It’s hard not to smile at the endearing love they all clearly have for the genre. Whether you tear up from the heartfelt lyrics or the ridiculousness of the scene, it’s nothing but a good time.
The release of the track is right on the heels of Tank’s nomination for “Favorite Male R&B Artist” at the AMA’s which you can watch Sunday Nov, 21. It also herald’s the promise of new music as Tank is set to drop his tenth studio album, R&B MONEY, on February 4, 2022.
