Rapper DYFL Collaborates With Jim Jones on Melodic Single “Scared Money”
Miami-based rising rap artist Demetrius “DYFL” Lumpkin released his single “Scared Money” earlier this year, marking it as his first project of 2022.
DYFL accredited his childhood teacher for introducing him to the art of rhyme and storytelling. He had been instructed to write rhymes in a take-home journal to explain what he had done over the weekend, allowing the rapper to grasp the power of combining written word with musicality. From that point on, the Miami-based rapper was drawn to music. He meticulously listened to the mainstream rap artists of the time, but the majority of his inspiration has been drawn from the underground rap scene of Philadelphia and New York.

DYFL began his music journey as a highschooler, performing in school talent shows and battling MC’s until eventually moving into the studio. There, he worked day in and out trying to gain the attention of record labels and producers. He frequented local studios until finally gaining the attention of music producers Cool and Dre. Through this relationship, DYFL was eventually introduced to fellow Miami rapper C-ride. C-ride quickly became DYFL’s mentor, guiding him through his early career and even assisting with DYFL’s first mixtape “Ride to the Future”.

Now, in 2022, DYFL has further established his budding career by collaborating with the infamous rapper and New-York Native Jim Jones. “Scared Money”, released on January 28th, is a refreshing approach to conscious hip hop and rap. While the single has elements of 90s rap, it’s still remarkably unique and current. The added vocals included in the production are reminiscent of some of Drake and J Cole’s earlier music, and fit perfectly with the slightly orchestral production.
You can keep up with DYFL on streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.
