With an all-star cast full of hip hop legends, it seems this year’s super bowl halftime show will be one to remember. Teased in a new trailer through Pepsi’s social media, icons Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J Blige are showcased alongside Dr. Dre in an epic montage. Announced last September, it’s only now that we get to see this legendary trailer unfold.

In the style of heist movies such as Ocean’s Eleven, Dr. Dre is presented as the architect of the group. With chess being the central motif of the trailer, the pieces symbolize each artist as Dre places each key player on the board. Stylistically, each musician has their own montage sequence accompanied by their signature song before being summoned by Dre. Once all assembled, the group meets in Los Angeles, ready to begin a performance of a lifetime.

Hosted in Los Angeles for the first time this century, it’s fitting that three of the five superstars (Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre) hail form southern California. In a statement made by Dr Dre:

The opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, and to do it in my own backyard, will be one of the biggest thrills of my career… I’m grateful to Jay-Z, Roc Nation, the NFL, and Pepsi as well as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar for joining me in what will be an unforgettable cultural moment.
